India win by 66 runs as debutants shine
India won the 1st ODI vs England in Pune on Tuesday by 66 runs. Invited to bat, India scored 317/5 in the first ODI against England on Tuesday. England were all out for 251 in 42.1 overs, losing by 66 runs.
India take the first of the three match series, by a chasm. Smashing debuts by Prasidh, who finished with four wickets, and Krunal Pandya who grabbed a wicket to go alongside his memorable 58.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with a 98 while captain Virat Kohli (56), KL Rahul (62 not out) and debutant Krunal Pandya (58 not out) struck half centuries in a solid battig performance. For England, all-rounder Ben Stokes picked up three wickets, while Mark Wood snared two. India handed ODI debuts to Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav also made a comeback to the playing XI. For England, Sam Billings, Tom Curran and Moeen Ali are back in the XI.
In response to a target of 318 runs, the visitors were bowled out for 251 in 42.1 overs. England had a bright start to their chase, but the departures of openers Jason Roy (46) and Jonny Bairstow (94) saw them lose plenty of momentum. Also, debutant Prasidh Krishan bounced back after a few expensive deliveries, to take four wickets and Shardul Thakur registered three dismissals. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets and debutant Krunal Pandya also scalped a dismissal.The hosts have taken a 1-0 lead in the ongoing series, and will be aiming to build on their form in the second ODI.
